What does Vaidyaka mean?
Vaidyaka literally means "Practitioner of Knowledge." Vaidya also means "one who knows". In ancient India an Ayurvedic Doctor was known as a Vaidya. This word is similar to Veda, which also means knowledge. As an Ayurvedic practitioner and Jyotishi, Amarnath takes the wisdom of these sciences and passes it on to the patient, being himself but a humble conduit of this sacred ancient knowledge.
Amarnath Matthews, C.A.S., P.K.S., C.M.T
Amarnath is a graduate of the California College of Ayurveda (CCA), the nation's leader in Ayurvedic education, with certifications as a Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist and Pancha Karma Specialist. He has been of service as the Director of the College’s Pancha Karma Center and has coordinated, as well as performed, these ancient, healing body therapies. As a member of the CCA faculty, Amarnath taught the instructive curriculum on Pancha Karma, bringing his real-world experience to the classroom.
Amarnath has a deep commitment to his Ayurvedic and Jyotish education. Shortly after beginning his studies at the CCA in 2004, he began studying with his pulse teacher, Dr. Mary Jo Cravatta, where he developed a special talent for Pulse Diagnosis. After graduation from the CCA, Amarnath traveled to India and spent six months exploring its culture and deepening his studies surrounding Pancha Karma, Deenacharya (daily routine) and Sadhana (spiritual practices). Upon returning from India in 2007, Amarnath spent the first year of his Pancha Karma practice at the CCA working closely with Dr. Marc Halpern, the founder of the College.
He began his studies of Jyotish upon beginning his Ayurvedic education with the reading of books and occasional workshops. It was not until he met his current Jyotish Teacher, Freedom Tobias Cole, that he began putting all of the knowledge together. This style of learning provided him with a deeper sense of lineage and completeness which opened him up to a very clear understanding of this science he was unable to gain just reading books. In 2010 he formally started giving Vedic Astrolgy readings at the encouragement of his teacher and has continued to do so in correlation with his Ayurvedic consultations providing a step up in care for his patients.
Prior to his training as an Ayurvedic healer, Amarnath received Certification as a Massage Therapist, after completing 650 hours of massage training, and also received level one Rei Ki attunement. He has also been a Hatha Yoga teacher in the Iyengar tradition, which compliments his work in Ayurveda as Yoga and Ayurveda are rooted in the same tradition. In fact, his studies of Massage, Rei Ki and Hatha Yoga have given him a deeper perspective on how to effectively care for his patients–both physically and energetically–and ultimately led him to study the science of Ayurveda.
Amarnath is a devotee of Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma), the great spiritual Saint from India. Amma is a humanitarian and the embodiment of service, compassion, humility and devotion. It is these qualities to which Amarnath continuously aspires.
Knowing there will never be an end to his studies of these vedic sciences, he currently ttravels around the world to learn and grow more in his field and providing his services wherever he can. He currently stays in Chiang Mai Thailand and is always happy to offer himself humbly.
